Free Fly Casting Practice & Outdoor Fun for the Community/
Eagle River Outfitter is excited to announce that we’ll be participating in Youthapalooza on June 4, 2026, with a volunteer and sales tent focused on introducing kids, families, and community members to the fun of fly casting and outdoor recreation.
Hosted by Mountain Youth, Youthapalooza is a community-centered event focused on youth engagement, healthy activities, creativity, and positive experiences for families throughout Eagle County. The event takes place at Eagle Town Park and brings together local organizations, activities, and resources designed to support and inspire youth in the Vail Valley.
Throughout the event, our guides and volunteers will offer free fly-casting practice and instruction to anyone who stops by the tent.
Free Fly Casting Practice for All Ages
Whether someone has never touched a fly rod before or already spends time on the river, our goal is simple:
- Make fly fishing approachable
- Help kids and families try something new
- Encourage confidence and curiosity outdoors
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Learn the basics of fly casting
- Practice timing and rod control
- Improve accuracy and coordination
- Ask questions about fly fishing and local rivers
Our guides will provide hands-on instruction in a relaxed setting designed to make learning fun rather than intimidating
Introducing Youth to the Outdoors
At Eagle River Outfitter, we believe outdoor experiences can have a lasting impact on young people. Fly fishing naturally teaches:
- Patience
- Focus
- Observation
- Respect for nature
- Confidence through skill-building
Events like Youthapalooza create the perfect environment for introducing those values in a positive and engaging way.
Many kids in the Vail Valley grow up surrounded by rivers, mountains, and outdoor opportunities, but not everyone has had the chance to try fly fishing. By bringing casting instruction directly into the community, we hope to remove barriers and show families how accessible and rewarding the sport can be.
Sometimes all it takes is one good cast—or one exciting moment with a fly rod—to spark a lifelong interest in the outdoors.
More Than Just Fishing
While casting practice will be a major focus at our tent, we’re also looking forward to connecting with families, local organizations, and other community members throughout the event.
Our team will be available to talk about:
- Guided fly fishing trips
- Kids’ fly fishing opportunities
- Family-friendly river experiences
- Beginner instruction
- Conservation and river stewardship
- Local fishing conditions in the Vail Valley
We’ll also share information about our:
- Fly casting workshops
- Kids camps
- Walk-and-wade trips
- Group and special event experiences
For many families, Youthapalooza may be their first introduction to Eagle River Outfitter, and we’re excited to show how fly fishing can fit into a healthy, active Colorado lifestyle.
Supporting the Community
One of the reasons we’re excited to participate in Youthapalooza is that the event aligns closely with values we care deeply about:
- Positive youth development
- Outdoor recreation
- Community involvement
- Healthy lifestyle experiences
Mountain Youth’s mission focuses on improving the lives of youth through community collaboration and engagement. Supporting events like this allows local organizations and businesses to work together in creating opportunities for young people throughout Eagle County.
As guides who spend countless days on the Eagle River, we understand how important it is to help future generations build connections to the outdoors. Rivers, trails, parks, and open spaces become far more meaningful when kids have positive experiences in them early in life.
Fly Casting Is the Perfect Starting Point

Fly casting is one of the easiest and most approachable ways to introduce people to fly fishing.
Unlike full fishing trips that require waders, river access, and technical setups, casting practice allows participants to:
- Learn fundamentals quickly
- Experience success immediately
- Build confidence before stepping into the water
At Youthapalooza, we’ll have casting setups ready for all ages and experience levels. Our instructors will help participants understand:
- Basic casting mechanics
- Timing and rhythm
- How the fly rod loads and unloads
- Simple tips for smoother, more accurate casts
Most importantly, we’ll keep the experience fun and interactive.
Join Eagle River Outfitter at Youthapalooza
We’re looking forward to spending the day with the community, meeting new families, and helping kids experience fly fishing in a fun and approachable way.
