Location/Group:
Gore Creek (Vail, CO) – Exclusive Access. The Group consisted of 13 out-of-town corporate guests from the Grand Hyatt Vail.
The Mission:
Rapid deployment and high-quality angling for large-scale teams.
The Experience:
We pride ourselves on moving large corporate groups from the “boardroom to the riverbank” with zero friction. Today was a masterclass in efficiency as we got 13 anglers rigged up and on the water directly behind the Grand Hyatt Vail. For a group of primarily out-of-town beginners, the ability to step off the hotel property and immediately into Gold Medal water was a game-changer.
The Fishing:
While the clouds threatened, the rain held off, creating the perfect low-light “feeding window.” The local trout were eager and surprisingly forgiving for our novice guests. We saw a healthy mix of vibrant Rainbows and buttery Brown trout across the board.
The Winning Strategy:
- The “Bread & Butter” Rig: We leaned into a high-confidence “junk-and-juice” combo. Leading with San Juan Worms or pink wire worms got their attention, while small BWO nymphs and Zebra Midges (sz 20-22) sealed the deal.
- Education on the Fly: Our guide team focused on the fundamentals of the “Vail reach cast” and line management, ensuring that even those who had never held a fly rod were drifting like pros by the end of the session.
- Efficiency: By utilizing the expansive bank space behind the Hyatt, we kept the group together for a social atmosphere while giving every angler enough “room to breathe” and find their own productive pocket water.
The Result:
13 anglers, 13 success stories. The group walked away with a deep appreciation for the beauty of Vail and the thrill of the tug. Whether it was the first trout ever caught or a seasoned pro enjoying a quick session, everyone left the water with a smile.
