Most of the group was relatively new to fly fishing, yet they stepped up to the challenge of fishing in stiff winds and delivered one of the most rewarding days on the water: consistent dry fly action on wild trout.

Strong winds often push beginners toward heavy nymph rigs for easier control, but when the Blue-Winged Olives began their massive hatch, the river came alive with rising fish. Our guide team quickly adapted, shifting the focus to surface fishing. They taught the group how to time casts between gusts, track tiny size 20–22 dries on the choppy surface, and maintain a drag-free drift in challenging conditions.

The Avon Hike & Bike Path proved to be the perfect classroom, allowing guides to move quickly among anglers and offer real-time tips on reach mends, wind-resistant casting strokes, and line management.
