Guides: David & Andreas on the Egle River and Gore Creek
After weeks of dry weather, we finally got it – a proper soggy morning in the valley. Humid air, low clouds, and that smell of wet grass we haven’t had in a long time. Much-needed moisture and a much-needed reprieve for everyone out there.
We had a family of four today – Mom, Dad, and two boys, 8 and 10. With 6 of our guides already working Gore Creek this morning, we opted to give them space and took our crew down to our peaceful stretch on the Eagle in Avon to work it meticulously for a few hours.
The Eagle was stained with about 18″ of visibility coming down. That low-vis made for careful, tough wading, but it made for very happy fish. Those trout that are normally so spooky in this skinny, clear water had their guard down and were eating well.
Worms, small baetis, and midge patterns were the ticket. Nothing fancy needed – just getting it in front of them in that off-color water.
Both boys got into a few trout each, and that says it all – big smiles all around. Dad landed some nice fish as well, and Mom had a great time mixing in some fishing from the cool banks while watching her boys succeed. That’s a good morning.
We saw some fresh bear tracks down there, but nobody showed their face to say hello.
No one was disappointed. We’ll take more mornings just like that.

Notes: Wading is tricky right now with the color – take it slow and bring a wading staff. Fishing is good if you get out in it.
