Location: Wolcott, CO | Family Outing | Eagle River Fishing Report
Overview: June 14th turned into one of those days you remember more for the company than the catch count. The Twin Sisters crew brought the whole family out – kids, husbands, and all – for a full group float near Wolcott. We picked that stretch specifically to keep everyone together, with a mix of new staff and veteran guides on the sticks to make sure both adults and young kids had plenty of attention.
Conditions: The Eagle was running clear but a little pushy after some upstream snowmelt. Water temps were hanging in the mid-50s by afternoon. Blue skies and light canyon winds made for comfortable wading, though the fish were moody with the bright sun overhead.
The Fishing: Let’s call it a “tough but honest” day. The trout were lock-jawed early, and we had to work for every eat. Nymphing deep with size 18-20 PMD and caddis patterns eventually got things going. Dry-dropper rigs picked up a few fish late morning when we saw sparse caddis fluttering.
The MVPs were a pair of young twin boys who absolutely grinded. No complaints, just casts. Their hard work paid off with a handful of browns and rainbows each – nothing huge, but everyone earned. Parents got into fishing too, rotating through the boats so everyone had a shot.
Funny twist: the ladies got skunked on trout today. Usually, it’s the opposite, and the women out-fish everyone, but the river had other plans this time. No matter – the smiles didn’t fade.
Guides & Crew: Great mix of energy on the water. New staff got some solid reps managing family groups, and the old hands kept things flowing smoothly. With kids in the mix, it was all about patience, untangling lines, and celebrating every hookup.

Takeaways: Not a numbers day, but it didn’t need to be. Everyone hooked fish, learned a lot about reading water and setting the hook, and – most importantly – found a new outdoor activity the whole family can rally around. The kids were already asking when we’re going again before we even loaded the boats.
If you’re heading out to Wolcott this week: fish early, stay deep, and keep expectations on fun first. The PMD hatch should keep building, and evenings are starting to show better dry fly windows.
