HENDRICKSON DRY FLY PATTERNS

Description

Hendrickson Dark is a must-have dry fly for spring trout fly fishing. Designed to imitate the adult Ephemerella subvaria mayfly, this pattern shines during the Hendrickson hatch—one of the most anticipated events in Eastern and Midwestern rivers. Emerging from mid-April through early May, this hatch draws large trout to the surface, making this fly especially productive.

Tied with a natural gray-brown body, dark dun hackle or lite dun, and upright split wings, the Hendrickson Dry Flies perfectly mimics the mayfly dun stage. It floats high and presents a clean silhouette in slow-moving water, riffles, and eddies where trout feed selectively.

This fly is best presented on a light leader with a drag-free drift during peak hatch times, typically midafternoon. It’s highly effective on limestone creeks, freestone streams, and tailwaters alike. Add a Hendrickson emerger or spinner to your fly box for full hatch coverage.

Whether you’re casting to cautious browns in Pennsylvania or wild brook trout in the Adirondacks, the Hendrickson Dry Flies consistently delivers results. This classic pattern is essential for any angler targeting spring surface feeders.
