YELLOW SALLY NYMPH TUNGSTEN

The Yellow Sally nymph fly pattern is a popular and effective imitation for fly fishing, especially in areas where yellow Sally stoneflies are present. Yellow Sallies are a favorite food source for trout because they are abundant in many streams and rivers, particularly those that are clean and oxygen-rich with rocky bottoms.

• Size and Color: Yellow Sally nymphs are typically small to medium-sized, with hook sizes ranging from 14-18 being effective. They are usually bright yellow or yellowish-green. Some adult Yellow Sallies have a reddish abdomen, and this can be incorporated into fly patterns.
• Life Cycle and Behavior: Yellow Sallies have an incomplete life cycle (egg, nymph, and adult). The nymph stage usually lasts one year. Nymphs live on the stream bottom, holding onto rocks and feeding on algae and detritus. Before emerging, they move towards the shallower edges and can be washed into the current, becoming vulnerable to trout.
